  • David Taipari

    David Taipari

    CHAIRMAN | CURRENT - 2028

    David Taipari is a vastly experienced advocate for our people and has a broad range of skills gained through more than 30 years involvement in Māori development and local government. He has held a wide range of roles in rūnanga, Māori trust boards, Treaty negotiation, marae trusteeship, economic development, conservation boards, the Hauraki Gulf Forum and standing committees of district councils.

    David has been a member and chair of the Board since its inception in 2010. He is selected for the Board by the Marutūāhu mana whenua representatives.

  • Hon. Tau Henare

    DEPUTY CHAIRMAN | CURRENT - 2028

    Of Ngāpuhi descent, Tau grew up in Otara, South Auckland. He went on to be involved in union organisation, community development, and early childhood education. With a political career spanning two decades, Tau won the Northern Māori electorate in 1993 and served the following term as the Minister of Māori Affairs. After becoming a list MP in 2005, Tau also chaired the Māori Affairs Select Committee from 2008 to 2014. Currently, Tau is a Board member on the Crown Forestry Rental Trust.

    Tau is appointed to the Board representing mātāwaka.

    Tony Kake

    Of Ngāti Hau, Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Mahuta, Ngāti Whāwhākia and Tainui, Tony is the CEO of the Papakura Marae. With previous experience as a Funding and Planning Manager in Māori Health for the Counties Manukau District Health Board, he has more than 20 years of experience in community development and social policy including 10 years as Manager, Community Development with Manukau City Council.

    Tony was made a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the 2022 New Years Honours list. Tony is a representative of mātāwaka.

  • Karen Wilson

    Karen Wilson

    Te Ākitai Waiohua, Ngāti Te Ata, Ngāti Pikiao, Ngāti Hau

    Karen Wilson is a leader with extensive experience across iwi governance, Treaty negotiations, and public service. Karen spent more than 30 years with the NZ Police, including a decade in senior management, before moving full-time into iwi leadership and governance roles.

    Karen is the Chair Te Ākitai Waiohua Settlement Trust, Investment Trust and Community Development Trust and serves as a Director on Rangitāmiro (Whānau Ora Commissioning Agency), as a Trustee on Ngaa Pou Hauora oo Taamaki Makaurau (Iwi Māori Partnership Board), the Chair of Tupuna Taonga o Taamaki Makaurau Trust and a member of the Tupuna Maunga o Taamaki Makaurau Authority.

    These roles reflect Karen’s deep commitment to advancing the aspirations of Māori.

    Ngāti Whātua ki Kaipara, Ngāti Whātua.

    Margie Tukerangi is a leader within Ngā Maunga Whakahii o Kaipara, bringing extensive experience in iwi and marae governance. She serves as Chair of the Ngā Maunga Whakahii o Kaipara governance board and represents Te Aroha Pā Marae, where she has also held responsibilities as a marae trustee.

    Margie is recognised for her strong grounding in her haukāinga of Araparera and her longstanding commitment to advancing the aspirations of her people. She is named as a South Kaipara representative under Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Whātua Order 2024, reflecting her continued leadership across iwi structures.

    Ngāti Pāoa, Ngāti Whanaunga, Ngāti Tamaterā

    Michelle Wilson is a dedicated advocate for her iwi, bringing extensive experience across local and central government, iwi development, and cross-sector collaboration. She is a strategic and politically astute leader known for her commitment to co-design, ensuring Māori visibility, participation, and influence in key decision-making spaces.

    Michelle has held a wide range of roles across marae governance, iwi organisations, mana whenua forums, emergency management groups, and advisory boards throughout Tāmaki and Hauraki. Her strengths include relationship-building, strategic thinking, and leveraging public sector systems to advance Māori aspirations. Michelle is selected for Houkura by the Marutūāhu mana whenua representatives.

    Ngarimu is currently the Deputy Chair of the Ngāti Whātua Ōrakei Trust and their appointee to Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Whai Rawa Ltd which is the commercial company of the hapū. He is also a Director on Waka Kotahi, and is the long-serving Co-Chair of the Tāmaki Makaurau Mana Whenua Forum.

    Ngarimu is of Te Uri o Hau, Ngāti Whātua Tūturu, Te Taoū, Ngāti Rango and Ngā Oho descent and an active member of Hoani Waititi Marae in West Auckland.

    Lead treaty negotiator for Ngāti Manuhiri, Mook is an executive member of the Ngāti Manuhiri Settlement Trust.

    He has extensive treaty negotiation experience acting as a negotiator for Ngāti Maniapoto and is a member of the Tāmaki Makaurau Mana Whenua Forum. He is also a tangata whenua member of the Hauraki Gulf Forum.

    Mook is a representative of mana whenua.
